Successful people measure themselves in terms of something they’re not good at.

I’ve been privileged to be with people who are far more successful than I am.  Some are financially successful.  Some are famous.  Some personally impact thousands of lives around the world through service to others.  And while each one of them recognizes their contribution and achievements, none of them believes they have “arrived.”  None of them are done.  They’re still going.  They’re in their 70’s and 80’s now.  They are extremely successful…and they’re still at it.

I used to think that success was something to be achieved.  A trophy.  A prize.  And once I acquired that success, I would just coast along, never having to “work for it” again.

What I’ve come to realize is that successful people don’t coast.  They move.  And their movement – to them, it’s not work.  It’s who they are.  They’re just living out the life entrusted to them to live.  And the world finds that authenticity irresistible.

Yes, successful people are aware of what they’ve achieved.  But their focus isn’t in the past.  Their focus is on the horizon.  On those things yet to be accomplished.  On those things they haven’t yet conquered.  On the stuff they haven’t proven to themselves that they’re good at…yet.  To successful people, success is measured in terms of doing stuff they haven’t done before.

How about you?  What are some of your past successes?  And more importantly, what are some of your future successes?
