I remember my mom singing that song to my sister and me when we were itty bitty kids. (Actually, she sang it well into our teenage years, but that’s another story.) Even though I heard that song a lot growing up, I never understood the truth and power in those words until recently.
Be careful little eyes what you see…because your expectations create your destiny. What we see – or perhaps, the colored lenses through which we see things – create our experiences. And our experiences create our destiny.
Ever known someone who always sees the negative in everything? Even when it’s not really there? That lens of negativity colors everything they see, and it creates an experience of negativity…even where it doesn’t otherwise exist.
In the picture above…what do you see? Do you see excitement? Danger? Fun? Stupidity?
How does it happen that two people seeing the same thing…see different things?
I’ve wondered that for years. And then, last year, I began a journey on which I’ve experienced the answer. And it really is as simple as that song.
We create our own experience through our thoughts, feelings and emotions. And those are controlled, on auto-pilot, if you will, based on our deeply held beliefs. And those deeply held beliefs…they’re reinforced by what we feed into ourselves day in and day out.
What to change your results? Change your inputs. Change what your little eyes see, what your little ears hear, what your fingers touch, where your feet walk.
What to be more creative? Hang out with creative people. More passionate? Hang out with more passionate people. Less tense and on edge? Turn off the news.
“But I can’t do that.”
Did you hear your subconscious saying that just now?
Oh be careful little heart…and little brain…what you tell yourself. Because whether you tell yourself you can, or you tell yourself you can’t…you’re right.
