Do you ever struggle with making a decision?
Life is full of impossible choices. Like at Dairy Queen…plain, chocolate dipped, or dreamsicle dipped? Of course, that’s a false dichotomy. At DQ, it doesn’t have to be an either-or.
In more important matters, however, decisions can be difficult. “To decide” means “to cut off every other option.” And without a clear vision, a clear direction, decisions can become impediments to success.
But I’ve found a way to make decisions enablers of success.
I have a strategic plan. And I’ve found that decisions are much easier when there’s a clear alignment with my personal strategic plan, my goals, my purpose.
One recent example is around buying my Escalade. I’ve wanted one for a while, because it fits who I am. It’s a large, quality vehicle that moves a lot of people through whatever kind of terrain it encounters…in comfort and style. That’s what we do through Straightforward Consulting. We move people forward. Through whatever terrain lies ahead. And we do it with quality, style, and comfort.
There was another reason buying the Escalade was a straightforward decision.
One of the ways my purpose is lived out is through supporting orphans and orphanages abroad. The work I do through Straightforward Consulting and other venues generates revenue that I leverage to provide pathways out of poverty through the liberty and dignity of work.
“What does an Escalade have to do with orphans?” you may wonder.
Well, acquiring the Escalade meant we weren’t using our Sienna minivan. And it just so happened that a lady who runs orphanages in Africa was in the states itinerating, raising money for her work. Except she didn’t have a good vehicle…until we donated the Sienna. Perfect alignment with my purpose.
Having my purpose visibly in front of me, every day…knowing where I’m headed, and seeing it in front of me…that makes decisions easy…and even fun.
